Leveraging the next-generation Java embedded technology, this plug and play terminal works out of the box to quickly connect industrial applications to the Internet with pre-approvals, virtually zero design time and minimal integration effort.
Gemalto announced the Cinterion EHS8 M2M module which has a global Five-Band 3G connectivity with embedded GPS in a miniaturized footprint.

The EHS8 module offers the latest Java ME 3.2 client runtime platform optimized for resource-constrained M2M applications. By sharing resources such as memory, a large code base and proven software building blocks it significantly reduces of the total cost of ownership (TCO) and development timelines.

The improved Java concept uses Multi MIDlet Java execution to simultaneously host and run multiple applications and protocols. An extended security concept with the latest TLS/SSL engine provides secure and reliable TCP/IP connectivity while an enriched internal flash file system enables royalty free firmware updates over-the-air (FOTA) when required.

The Gemalto Cinterion PLS8 LTE cellular M2M moduleis optimized for high bandwidth computing, enabling speeds up to 100 Mbps for downlink and 50 Mbps for uplink. The BGS5 module from Gemalto M2M is the next step in advanced 2G machine-to-machine (M2M) processing and communications. At only 27.6 mm x 18.8 mm x 2.7 mm, the BGS5 from Gemalto is the smallest module to offer advanced application processing power. It is a full Quad-Band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) module with GPRS class 12 support. Designed to deal with harsh environments, BGS5 supports M2M-grade extended temperature ranges.

The module itself can be programmed to collect specific information, process it via embedded business logic, and send the results at a scheduled time. Device makers can program and add applets to fit their needs, or use existing JSRs which are publically available. As the Java platform is open, this code can then be ported to other Java enabled devices later without requiring additional modifications.
