×
A CPU is responsible for performing the basic instructions that make the computer function. A SoC is a type of microprocessor that integrates all the components of an embedded board into a single chip, such as the CPU, memory, I/O (Input/Output) interfaces etc. A socket allows the CPU or SoC to be connected and communicate with the other components on the board. The socket on an embedded board needs to match the form factor and pinout (# of pins on a component) of the CPU or SoC that is used.

Operating temperature
×
The operating temperature is the range of temperatures in which an embedded board can operate properly. Outside this temperature range the board may fail or malfunction. Operating temperatures are commonly known in “standard operating temperature” and “wide range operating temperature”. The standard operating temperature for embedded boards is commonly between -20 degrees and +60 degrees Celsius. The wide range operating temperature is commonly between -40 degrees and +70 degrees Celsius.

Video signal
i
Video signal
×
A video signal on an embedded device carries visual information from a video source, such as a camera or a computer, to a display device, such as a monitor or a screen. The signal is typically generated by a video controller or a graphics processing unit (GPU) on the embedded device and then sent to the display device through a video output interface, such as HDMI, DisplayPort, LVDS, VGA, etcetera.
