Co-processor

A co-processor is an additional processor which works together with the main CPU to perform specific tasks or calculations. E.g. to perform complex mathematical calculations, such as those needed for graphics rendering, scientific simulations, signal processing or encryption. Co-processors can be integrated into a single chip together with the main CPU (also known as a SoC, system on a chip) or can be connected to the CPU via a bus or other interface.
