SolarSure displays: Sunlight protection that lasts

Sunlight destroys unprotected displays. UV radiationUltraviolet rays break down plastic layers and yellow polarizers. degrades materials, IR heatInfra-red energy builds up inside the stack and can trigger delamination if the bonding is poor. weakens adhesives, and glare turns screens unreadable. SolarSure displays are designed to survive: sharp visuals, no yellowing, and reliable operation; even in extreme sun.

Why SolarSure?

  • UV-resistant coating: Protects display against yellowing and keeps optical layers intact.
  • Glare-free bonding: Optical bonding improves contrast and reduces reflection. Reflected sunlight from water or snow can intensify exposure, while bonding keeps visuals crisp.
  • Thermal protection: Optional Hi-Tni LCDHigh-Tni LCD = “High-Temperature Twisted Nematic” liquid-crystal display. Built to resist heat-induced black-spot distortion. Perfect for outdoor signage, window fronts, and other high-temperature environments. and IR filters reduce internal heat build-up, extending display lifetime.

Public Transport

This case comes from a real-world public transport deployment. The customer initially selected a display without considering solar protection, unaware of the long-term effects of constant sun exposure. After a summer season, the LCD polarizers had yellowed, and black-spot defects appeared due to overheating. On the right, you see that failure. On the left, a display engineered with the SolarSure concept, which is protected against UV, glare and heat.

Greenhouses

In this case, displays were installed in greenhouse environments where exposure to direct sunlight was assumed to be moderate. However, prolonged UV radiation caused mechanical failure: the sensor film of the PCAP touchscreen detached from the glass substrate. This damage mimicked moisture ingress but was traced back to insufficient UV protection. On the left, you see a SolarSure-treated display that withstands such conditions. On the right, a unit with standard specifications. Not suited for greenhouse deployment.

Compare SolarSure tiers: built to survive sun, heat, and impact

SolarSure Standard
For moderate outdoor use (e.g. sheltered kiosks or devices with limited sun exposure).

SolarSure Advanced
For full daylight environments and extended temperature ranges.

SolarSure Pro
For (outdoor) environments, enduring extreme conditions. Such as direct sunlight, wide temperature swings, and high-impact risks (e.g. vandalism).

Frequently Asked Questions

A sunlight readable display is designed to remain clearly visible in bright outdoor conditions. These displays typically use high-brightness backlights (e.g. 1000+ cd/m²) and anti-glare coatings to reduce reflection and improve contrast.
A sunlight survivable display goes beyond visibility. It withstands long-term sun exposure without degrading. This means we use UV-resistant materials, IR heat shielding, advanced bonding (OCA or OCR), and rugged glass to prevent yellowing, black spots, and adhesive failure. Especially in harsh environments like greenhouses, kiosks, or vehicles.
SolarSure is Texim Europe’s display protection concept for outdoor environments. It combines UV and IR protection, heat-resistant bonding, and rugged glass to prevent sunlight-induced display failure.
Prolonged UV exposure can cause yellowing of polarizers, adhesive breakdown, and delamination of touchscreen layers. These defects lead to poor readability and reduced lifespan.
Hi-Tni LCDs are needed when displays are exposed to extreme heat or direct sunlight. They resist black-spot formation at temperatures above 105°C, making them ideal for outdoor signage, kiosks, and greenhouses.
